Pod Mod Surfboard

Channel Islands Pod Mod logo
Thought I’d let you good people know that the Channel Islands Pod Mod surfboard is coming to our Channel Islands Pro Store in Cornwall in the next couple of weeks. It’s a big modification of the ever popular Pod model from back in 2000, making it wider than previous, and with the single to double concave removed and replaced with a flat entry to concave vee…. aiding nippier rail to rail transitions.

Enough chat for the minute, let’s have a look at it:-

As I said, the Pod Mod will be here in the next 2 weeks, so just in time for you to make the most of the summer swells… Did I tell you this year is going to be the best summer ever for surf in Cornwall ;) Aah, if only I could guarantee that, but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of wishful thinking!

We will be getting a good size break of the Pod Mod, and here’s the stock dimensions:-

A first glimpse at the Channel Islands Pro shop

A first glimpse at the Channel Islands Pro shop

Just a little heads up that there’ll be a Channel Islands Pro Store opening at Down the Line Surf Co in May. The store will have a ridiculously large selection of Channel Islands surfboards, featuring full size breaks of the latest models as they are released.

There will also be a tasty range of boardbags, leashes and tail pads, amongst a few other exclusives which I can’t really talk about yet ;)
As always, custom orders are available, with priority given to us over any shop in Europe, meaning you get your custom board that little bit quicker.

That’s about it for the minute, but there will be details of the launch party coming out pretty soon. Contact us for more info… and while you’re here, why don’t you check out the latest Channel Island boards in stock right now.

Channel Islands Girabbit – Coming February

January 9th, 2015

Exciting times here at Down The Line Surf Co. – the UK’s leading stockist of surfboards and surf hardware – with new surfboard models coming in stock thick and fast over the coming weeks and months. And one in particular we’re looking forward to getting our mitts on is the Channel Islands Girabbit.

Dunno if you watched any of last year’s Hurley Pro at Trestles but if you did you’ll recall it was won in fine style by Jordy Smith (perhaps taking second to John John in terms of overall event performance to be fair). The surfboard he was riding? Yep, the Channel Islands Girabbit…

The Channel Islands Girabbit, Jordy Smiths signature performance shortboard.

Essentially a step-up version of the Bunny Chow, another Channel Islands Jordy Smith signature model, the Girabbit works best in waves with a bit of grunt somewhere around the head-high mark. But it’s pretty versatile and will perform well in a wide range of conditions.

In keeping with Jordy’s sensibilities, it’s kinda chunky, with full rails and plenty of thickness from nose to tail. Loads of rocker throughout allows tight snaps in the pocket, while full rails and a straight outline make the Girabbit great for drawn out power carves too.

Call us on (01736) 757025 or email info@downthelinesurf.co.uk for more info or to reserve your Girabbit now!

Mescaline Surfboard by Christenson / Tomo

January 8th, 2015

Due to come in stock sometime in February, the Mescaline surfboard is an interesting looking colab between Tomo and Christenson. Followers of Australian Daniel ‘Tomo’ Thomson’s shapes will notice how similar the Mescaline is to his V4, one of his Firewire produced MPH series. It would appear the double diamond tail is a little more pointed and the channels more pronounced. We’ll update you with the full design info when we have it, but a key difference we can be sure about at this stage is the construction – PU/Poly as opposed to Firewire’s EPS/Epoxy tech – which will obviously give the board that more traditional feeling flex-pattern that many surfers still prefer.

Firewire Vader in the UK

November 10th, 2014

Firewire Vader is the latest model from Daniel “Tomo” Thomson to utilise the modern planing hull (MPH). On first inspection you’ll think it looks very similar to the Vanguard apart from the Firewire Vader has a diamond tail as opposed to the Vanguard’s vee/double diamond. Well, actually the Vader does an even better job at hiding it’s volume, allowing you to ride the Firewire Vader even shorter than you’d ride the Vanguard.

The Firewire Vader is designed for anything in the waist to double-overhead range, putting the Vader way up there in terms of versatility. Ride it as a quad in weak waves to increase the speed, and switch to a tri-fin when the swell picks up and you need a little more control. Trust me it’ll still offer plenty of speed!

Check out the foil on it, short and chunky with the width pulled in is the name of the game

We will be getting the Firewire Vader in stock this week in a 5’5-5’10. Strictly limited stock, so contact us today if you want to reserve one, or alternatively give us a ring on 01736 757025.

Length  Width  Thickness  Fin Set up  Volume
 5’5″  18 3/8″  2 7/16″  5 fin FCS2  28.8
 5’6″  18 5/8″  2 1/2″  5 fin FCS2  30.5
 5’7″  18 7/8″  2 9/16″ 5 fin FCS2  32.1
 5’8″  19 1/8″  2 5/8″ 5 fin FCS2  33.9
 5’9″  19 3/8″  2 11/16″ 5 fin FCS2  35.7
 5’10”  19 5/8″  2 11/16″ 5 fin FCS2  37.6

I suppose you want to have a look at the Vader don’t you? Well here she is! Please note we’ll have it as FCS 2 and not futures as shown.

Firewire Tomo Vader Surfboard

Firewire Tomo Vader

This is how Firewire describe the Vader surfboard:-

“Dan describes the Vader as a Mind Surfing Machine, which reacts instantaneously to desired directional changes with incredible bursts of speed. Controlled, drawn out carves and radical tight angle snaps are achievable with an effortless and intuitive shift in a surfer’s weight. In addition, paddle power and generally usability have been increased with a larger volume distribution throughout comparative to the Vanguard, which encourages surfers to ride the Vader even shorter than previously considered functional.”
